Research Consultant
Esther is a PGY-4 psychiatry resident at Mission Community Hospital with a particular interest in immigrant and Asian mental health. Her clinical interests include psychotherapy, trauma, depression, and severe mental illness. She is especially interested in how cultural perspectives shape the understanding and treatment of mental health. Having trained in the diverse Los Angeles community, she is committed to improving access to mental health care, including through homeless outreach, and reducing stigma surrounding mental health. She is also interested in neuromodulation and psychedelic research and their potential to expand our understanding of consciousness and advance psychiatric treatment.

What drew you to consciousness
I am drawn to consciousness research because so much about the mind remains unknown. I am fascinated by the ways in which consciousness can shape our perception and physiology, such as the ability of experienced meditators to consciously influence autonomic processes. Understanding these phenomena may deepen our understanding of both mind and body.
Hobbies
Being a plant mom, hot yoga enthusiast. Getting sunshine and walking. Various arts and crafts projects.
